The new bridge over the Munot moat
The 24 m span offers a well-balanced relationship between the handrail height and the deck thickness. Two slender compression arches are integrated into the handrails and connected to the side beams of the deck, absorbing the horizontal thrust of the arches.
The vertical steel plates forming the side railings not only support the handrails but also stabilize the arches transversely, preventing lateral buckling. The deck’s top plate and the end posts of the balustrades provide additional stiffness to resist unevenly distributed live loads.
The walkway consists of flat, prefabricated slabs that are easy to install, onto which a 6 cm thick load-bearing concrete layer is cast in place without the need for formwork.
The dynamic behavior of the structure has been analyzed to ensure that all natural frequencies of the bridge remain above the critical range for pedestrian-induced resonance.
