The new bridge over the Munot moat
The 24 m span provides a good relationship between the height of the handrail and the thickness of the deck. Two thin compression arches are integrated into the handrails, connected to the deck side beams and receiving the horizontal components of the arches.
The steel plates of the vertical side railings create a handrail and at the same time stabilise the arches in the transverse direction to prevent buckling. The top plate and end posts of the balustrades stiffen the structure against the unevenly distributed live loads. The cladding consists of prefabricated, easy-to-install precast slabs, onto which a 6 cm-thick load-bearing concrete layer is poured without formwork.
The dynamic behaviour has been checked to ensure that the bridge’s natural frequencies are all higher than the resonance frequency of pedestrians
